Legacy Martial Arts

For the legacy of a lifetime...

Style v. Style

Style vs style is a game we came up with to focus on our opponent’s weakness, as well as recognize our own. Each student is assigned a style of fighting, it should be noted that we are a mixed martial arts school and everyone is trained to grapple, strike, takedown, defend and go for submissions.

The students are then assigned a particular style of fighting usually one of the following, Boxing, Karate, Muay Thai, Wrestling, or Submission, each with its own strengths and weaknesses.

The boxer may only punch, and wins the match by keeping it standing, or landing a solid flurry. If taken down the boxer can only attempt to sprawl or get back up, and is not allowed to stay down.

Karate, is trying to use the kicking techniques to finish the fight, they may punch but can only win by landing three kicks to the head of their opponent.

Muay Thai- can punch and kick but wins by landing five knees, or low leg Thai kicks to an opponent, like the other strikers they cant fight on the ground just get up and try to finish on the feet.

Wrestling- this is a modified wrestler or ground and pound, they are not allowed to strike whilst standing, but can takedown, and then finish by landing a flurry of punches to their opponent.

Submission- They must get their opponent to the ground and then apply a submission hold, they need not tap them out as the students will be wearing full gear and apply the actual hold is considered enough.

The drill is done with full gear on and full face headgear, the students must be monitored by the instructor and each match should last only about a minute and a half, or until one finishes.

Its as fun drill and each students learns of their own weaknesses and strengths.

Numbers game

A popular drill with our students is the Numbers game, everyone is wearing full gear and forms a circle. One student stands in the middle and closes their eyes; the instructor assigns the students in the circle a number.

The center student then goes to fighting stance and the instructor calls numbers randomly and the corresponding student then attacks the center student with a 1-3 hit combo.
The attackers should not be allowed to attack very hard, and some techniques may be limited (spin kicks ext), the premise of the drill is to keep the student in the center aware of their surroundings, and prepared for attack at any angle.

This is usually a fun way to end a hard sparring session with something a little more fun.
